The population of Southwest Virginia increased by 1,105 residents this fall with the largest number of undergraduate Emory & Henry College students to attend classes on its Emory campus since 2004, representing a 2.1% increase over the previous year.
A former director of Appalachian Studies at Radford University has been named Assistant Vice President of Community Engagement and Economic Development at Emory & Henry College, where she will also supervise the planning of a Center for Community and Economic Development.

The Friday, September 22, and Friday, October 20 classes offer the option for online or in-person attendance.
An Academy Award-nominated documentary filmmaker whose work has examined the future of rural America will be the featured guest of the 41st Emory & Henry College Appalachian Literary Festival held on September 19-20, 2023, on the Emory campus.
Emory & Henry is bringing Bear Necessiteas & Coffee, a local café and bakery based in Bristol, Va., to campus to serve as an additional dining option and staple for the campus community and area residents. The café is expected to open in September 2023 and will be located at 31025 Oxford Ave between the Emory Mercantile and the United States Post Office.
On Saturday, August 12, at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center in Abingdon, Va., 103 students graduated from Emory & Henry College’s School of Health Sciences, marking a milestone of the largest graduating class to date. Additionally, the College celebrated the inaugural cohorts of the Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and the Doctor of Occupational Therapy. Many other students graduated with a Master of Physician Assistant Studies or a Doctorate of Physical Therapy.
