Service Plunge returns to Emory & Henry

On Saturday, January 8, incoming students participated in Service Plunge, an annual tradition at Emory & Henry.

This is the first time Service Plunge has taken place since fall 2019 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Students chose between six different services sites throughout the region including, Blue Ridge Discovery Center, Blue Mountain Therapy, Lincoln Theatre, Damascus Trail Center, Abingdon High School and Wayne C.Henderson School of Appalachian Arts.

Students, faculty and staff gather for a group photo before heading to six different service sites throughout the region.Organized by the Appalachian Center for Civic Life, the goals of Service Plunge are to demonstrate the mission of the College and the emphasis on civic virtue and values of civic engagement, to introduce new students to the wider community, to form relationship with community partners and to learn how we can work together towards solutions and how to connect our assets to provide students, faculty, and staff an opportunity to get to know one another and to share a meaningful experience
