Jason Lee Corvin Memorial Endowed Scholarship

The Jason Lee Corvin Memorial Endowed Scholarship was endowed in February of 2022.

Jason Corvin, was only 37 when he passed away in 2020, but he accomplished much in his short life.

A native of Washington County, Virginia, Jason was a graduate of Patrick Henry High School and a member of the Rebel Regiment Band. He played saxophone and became the Drum Major in his senior year.

After high school he studied at Emory & Henry College where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in management and economics. He was a College Senator for two years, and served as business manager for the campus newspaper, The Whitetopper. He was in the Blue & Gold Society, and served on the Campus Activities Board. He was a presenter at Winter Forum, and won the E&H Presidential Scholarship all four years of college. He was in the local chapter of the Phi Beta Lambda Accounting Club, and won first place in Business Law at the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference.

After graduating from Emory & Henry in 2005, he earned his master’s degree in accounting from Liberty University.

Jason became a professor, and taught accounting at Virginia Highlands Community College (VHCC) and King University. While at VHCC, he founded and managed the Wolf Hills Coffee Shop on campus.

Jason’s fun personality was always a huge part of everything he did. Through and through, he was a Big Orange Fan of the University of Tennessee. He enjoyed countless card games and playing dominoes with family and friends. He took great pride in his home, especially his flowers – and during his illness his flowers gave him particular comfort and joy.

Perhaps the thing that most epitomized the man he was during his curtailed life, was the work he did for others. Jason had his own accounting and tax preparation business; Corvin and Company; but because he had a very big and giving heart, he recruited accounting students to accompany him to the Bristol Public Library where they would prepare taxes for individuals who could not afford these services elsewhere. He received numerous awards and recognitions for his volunteer work.

Jason’s life was not long, but it was meaningful and had a joyful impact on all who loved him. And even though he is gone from this life, Jason will continue to have an impact because in February 2022 his family established the Jason Lee Corvin Memorial Endowed Scholarship. The fund is meant to be a remembrance of Jason’s life and also a powerful impact on students who follow his footsteps to study at Emory & Henry.

The scholarship description does a perfect job of describing Jason and his influence: “Jason Corvin will be remembered through this scholarship as a kind, loving, and intelligent man. His family, friends, colleagues, and all who were fortunate to know him, will forever cherish the memories of his keen business sense, his devotion to his family, and his loyalty and compassion for others.”
