Emory & Henry College to Host Back to School Community Day at First Home Football Game in the SAC Conference

Emory & Henry College is hosting a free Back to School Community Day on Saturday, September 3 at the Fred Selfe Stadium on the Emory campus beginning at 9 a.m.

Members of the local community, K-12 students, teachers, principals and administrators throughout both Washington and Smyth counties are invited to celebrate the opening of the 2022 football season. The Back to School Community Day will feature an outdoor activity center for kids including a bounce house, an inflatable slide, a rock climbing wall and more fun activities. The Kid’s Zone will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Fred Selfe Stadium.

In addition to the Kid’s Zone activity center, Ballad Health Niswonger Children’s Hospital will offer giveaways at the event.

The Emory & Henry College Marching Band will perform a pregame show at 12:45 p.m. The season opener for Emory & Henry College will kick off at 1 p.m. against Concord.

“We’re excited to offer our season opener to students and staff in the Washington and Smyth County school district,” said Anne Crutchfield, Vice President for Athletics at Emory & Henry College. “We know back to school is a busy and anxious time and we wanted to offer a day of fun and excitement on the Emory & Henry campus for the community to enjoy.”

Emory & Henry cheerleaders, dancers and Stinger the College mascot will be offering support to the team and engaging spectators. At half-time, the marching and & color guard will perform again.

Concessions will be available throughout the game, and students will be offered free popcorn. In addition there will be a Prize Patrol on the look for school T-Shirts - students and teachers spotted wearing their school pride will win a prize.

Parking is free. Attendees need to mention “Back to School Day” at the gates for free admission.
