Lauren Smith

Outdoor Programming Specialist Center for Outdoor Studies

Lauren (she/her/hers) grew up in the foothills of Northern California, and she spent childhood summers hiking, swimming, backpacking, camping, and horseback riding in the Sierra Nevadas. The granite walls, powerful rivers, and windy ridges were integral to her understanding of the world. She attended Sonoma State University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential. While in college, she discovered her real passion for outdoor education and adventure when working as a Student Programmer for Outdoor Pursuits. While living in Denver, Colorado, she worked at summer camps and guiding companies, summited fourteeners, and attended school, earning her Masters of Science in Parks and Recreation Management. Lauren believes that the outdoors are transformative, and she loves guiding newcomers on their first experiences in the backcountry.
