1Student Success
The record enrollment at Emory & Henry in recent years is the result of years of planning and foresight, guided by an unwavering commitment to student success, by opportunities for flexible instruction models enabled by 21st century technology, and by areas of emerging opportunity and need in the world into which our graduates are entering.
Emory & Henry is making the most of these opportunities to further enhance the student experience at a time when institutions of higher education are facing a state of disruption. The College has embraced the lessons learned from a long history of going through flexible periods of “creative reinvention,” when Emory & Henry has undertaken updates to make itself more relevant. Our current growth is another exciting period of creative reinvention, deeply rooted in our steadfast focus on student success.
The foundation of student success has multiple parallel elements that support the growth we are now observing. We seek to further enhance these elements as the premier private institution of higher education in Southwest Virginia and in the region.
Areas of support:
Additional scholarships, both merit and need-based, to further enhance academic success among students and student-athletes
Enhance programming, scholarships and community service on campus and beyond to promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging
Expand services offered by the Paul Adrian Powell, III Student Success Center available to Emory & Henry students
Provide new and enhanced on-campus housing for students to support growth and retention
Develop additional workforce development initiatives benefiting Southwest Virginia and Middle Appalachia
Emory & Henry invites you to share in this vision through your support as we ensure the success of our current and future students by preparing them to become thoughtful leaders and engaged citizens in Southwest Virginia and beyond.
2Enhancing the Intermont Equestrian Program
With the closure of Virginia Intermont (VI) College in 2014, E&H proudly adopted the VI Equestrian program, now called Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College. The program has contributed significantly to recent enrollment success. Currently, more than 100 students are enrolled in the program and demand continues to grow with new students added each fall term.
With these students comes a reinforcement of our values: excellence, leadership and individual responsibility. In addition to the 22 national championships that these student-athletes have garnered, students have honored the institution through their academic achievement, commitment to service, and work ethic.
The continued success of Intermont Equestrian at Emory & Henry College has translated into a growing program for both equestrian competition and equine studies. In fall 2021, the College began offering equine assisted therapy as a new major.
To continue the success of the equestrian program and to attract and retain students, E&H must improve its equine facilities.

3Development of a Multi-Sport Athletic Complex
E&H’s recent transition to Division II athletics has contributed significantly to the College’s enrollment growth. Student-athletes know Emory & Henry College is an academic powerhouse suited to the Division II mission of classroom success and the integration of athletes in all areas of campus and community life. The College must have the facilities to support these students.
Construction of a multi-sport complex will provide critical space for competition in track/field and cross country, the College’s fastest growing sports.
This new facility will also facilitate the addition of women’s lacrosse, women’s rugby and men’s lacrosse. It is projected that these sports will bring an additional 90 student-athletes to the College.
In addition, a multi-sport complex will allow the College to expand camps and clinics and host high school/college competitions and championships, all of which are sources of revenue for the College.
Areas of support:
NCAA regulation track with 9 running lanes
Field area inside the track for shot put, javelin, and discus competitions
Grandstand area for spectators and guests
Competition-style soccer fields
Parking area with greenway/sidewalks to the main Emory & Henry campus

Locker room space for both home and visitor teams
We invite you to support this exciting new facility, which will be located at exit 26 on Interstate 81. The Multi-Sport Complex will allow the College to provide a broader array of athletic offerings to students and promote a new front door to Emory & Henry to the nearly 40,000 interstate travelers who pass this exit each day.
