Cassie Sheffey

Assistant Professor of Nursing Nursing

Dr. Cassie Sheffey, DNP, APRN, FNP-C is a current practicing nurse practitioner, specializing in Family Practice and Rural Health. Her passion is providing care to her community in a preventative, holistic approach.

 

 

 

 

Education

Dr. Sheffey started her nursing career as a patient care technician, moving on to the role of LPN from Wytheville Community College, associate degree level RN from Wytheville Community College, followed by her BSN degree from King University in 2011. She received a MSN in Nursing Education from South University in 2013 followed by a MSN in Family Practice in 2017. She completed her Doctor of Nursing Practice Degree, focusing on depression management in rural health primary care, in May of 2023.

 

Teaching

Dr. Sheffey has served as the trauma educator for Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Adjunct Faculty Member for Wytheville Community College, and nurse practitioner preceptor for Bluefield College, South University, and Waldon.

Professional Experience

 

Clinical Practice

Dr. Sheffey has extensive experience in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, and Trauma Education for 12 years prior to her transition to Family Practice and Rural Health. She has also served as the primary care provider for a large manufacturing company for the past three years providing care both stateside and internationally.

 

Service

In addition to clinical practice and education, Dr. Sheffey has also served on the Injury Prevention Task Force for the State of Virginia, developing legislative guidelines to improve trauma care in the state of Virginia.

 

Certifications

Dr. Sheffey is also credentialed by the American Board of Telehealth to provide primary care via virtual technology. She received her autonomous practice license in the state of Virginia. She is board certified by AANP and is a member of the American Nursing Association.
