Associate Professor Saundra R. Farmer is the founding chair and director of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program. Dr. Farmer came to Emory & Henry in August 2018 from Carson-Newman University in Tennessee. She began her nursing education with a BSN from King University (Tennessee) and followed with a Master of Science in Nursing from Capital University (Ohio) and then her Doctor of Nursing Practice from Northern Kentucky University. Farmer has more than 32 years of nursing experience and 12 years of academia experience. She has served in various leadership roles throughout her nursing career.

“I have an extensive professional career in psychiatric and mental health nursing — a true passion for me. I have worked with severely mentally ill clients, substance abuse/chemically dependent, homeless dual diagnosis, criminal justice team, and deaf population. My early nursing career led me to working on cardiac telemetry units and being part of the Code Blue teams and cardiac transplant teams.”
