The Emory & Henry Fund

The Emory & Henry Fund (the annual fund) is important to the vitality and strength of the College as unrestricted gifts allow the institution to focus resources where they are needed most. Your unrestricted gift to the College will be used to enhance the student experience in areas of academics, student life, athletics, community engagement opportunities, and scholarship.

Family of Funds

With the Family of Funds, contributors have the opportunity to support one of six areas meaningful to them. Providing more giving options and broader choices enables donors to direct charitable support to an area most meaningful to them.

Areas of Greatest Need & Opportunity

Donations will be directed to the College’s most pressing, urgent needs and promising opportunities as defined by the president.

Academic Core

Contributions support the five academic divisions of Emory & Henry (Humanities, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences, Visual and Performing Arts, and Education) as well as the International Education Program and faculty development and research.

Academic Support

Gifts encompass direct support for areas such as the Frederick Thrasher Kelly Library, the Paul Adrian Powell, III Student Success Center, and educational technology improvements and upgrades to ensure student success.

Student Life

Support underwrites the Student Government Association and other important student-led organizations and clubs, student publications, community service organizations, security, the College’s Outdoor Program, intramural athletics and more.

Access and Affordability

Gifts benefit the general scholarship fund which provides financial support to students qualifying for scholarships and work-study assistance to supplement tuition and fees.

Sustainability

Contributions provide support for College projects that promote energy efficiency and the ethical stewardship of campus resources.

Patrick Henry Society

Patrick Henry Society

Patrick Henry Society Dinner Donors who contribute at the Patrick Henry Society level and above are invited to events annually, including a dinner hosted by President John W. Wells. This year, the Patrick Henry Society Dinner was held on Friday, October 28, in the Woodrow W. McGlothlin Center of the Arts. More than 100 of Emory & Henry’s most philanthropic community members came together to celebrate the achievements of the College and to receive an update on the many exciting happenings at Emory & Henry. Attendees were treated to special music provided by some of our top choral and student musicians.

The Society takes its name from Patrick Henry, patriot, orator of the American Revolution and Virginia’s first Governor. The Patrick Henry Society is composed of donors who contributed $1,775 or more to Emory & Henry during the fiscal year. The $1,775 honors the year Patrick Henry delivered his famous “Liberty or Death” speech.

Patrick Henry Society Associates Program

Patrick Dinner Society Dinner Alumni who graduated within the past 15 years become Patrick Henry Society Associate members with a fiscal year gift of $118 times the number of years since their graduation date. For example, if you graduated one year ago, you can become a member of the Patrick Henry Society for only $118. If you graduated 10 years ago, you can be in the PHS for only $1,180. To reach this giving level, young alumni can make monthly installments or a one-time gift.

I-HEY (I Help Every Year)

As an NCAA Division II institution, Emory & Henry College offers athletic scholarships to student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in their sport. Private financial support is crucial for the operation of our robust athletics program. Unrestricted donations to I-HEY are used for the greatest need and the benefit of all student-athletes and the 26 varsity teams. Donors are also able to designate I-HEY contributions, should they desire their support to be directed to one of the specific teams.
