After refrigeration became commonplace, along with piped water, the spring area was excavated to form a pond. E&H President Foye G. Gibson created the pond as it is known today in 1950, stocking it with ducks. When he became president of E&H in 1852, he continued to live in the building and did so until his retirement in 1879. Previous to being used as a residence hall, the building was used to house the the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid.
