Resources & Opportunities
Media & Communication majors are required to complete one 3-credit internship—but most majors complete two or more work experiences, jointly supervised by a departmental instructor and a professional in the field.
Upon completion of a professional internship, the student will:
- Gain a better understanding of a professional workplace
- Apply skills and theory in a new workplace setting
- Create a media portfolio and/or a new skills set
- Build a new entry for their résumé and develop a professional reference
- Explore and investigate a possible career path
The experience includes regular communication with the instructor, including skills assessment, journal, portfolio, summary/reflection paper, and a short class presentation. Students record their specific goals, expectations, and learning outcomes—specific to the site—in their Work Plan through the Career Center, in consultation with their faculty advisor and their site supervisor.
