Recruitment Information
Eligibility:
Upperclassmen
Any student who have completed at least two full semesters and 12 credit hours at Emory & Henry with a cumulative GPA of 2.3 shall be eligible to participate in recruitment. A first-year student with transfer credits allowing them to have sophomore status cannot participate.
First-year Students
Any first-year students (including transfer students) who have completed at least 12 credit hours at Emory & Henry and maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.3 shall be eligible to participate in recruitment.
International Students
International students who will be attending Emory & Henry for only one academic year is eligible to participate in recruitment their first semester.
International students who will be attending Emory & Henry for more than one year and have completed at least 12 credit hours at Emory & Henry and maintained a cumulative GPA of 2.3 shall be eligible to participate in recruitment.
Student-Athletes
Any student-athlete who is in season will not be allowed to participate in recruitment, unless permission from coach is received. Student-athletes will only be allowed to participate in recruitment during the off-season period.
*The Director of Student Activities & Dean of Students reserve the rights to review case-by-case basis of eligibility requirements.*
Opportunities:
Each organization will host recruitment events leading up to potential new members receiving bids. These events are on-campus and free to attend.
Recruitment Activities:
Meet the Greeks
The Greek Council encourages all students interested in fraternity and sorority life to join us for this event held annually. This is a chance to meet the Greek organizations, hear about the chapters, and learn more about the recruitment process. During the event potential new members will
- Pay their registration fee
- Have their GPA checked
- Sign the “Anti-Hazing Form”
- Sign-up for Greek Dinners with the organizations
Greek Dinners
Individual organizations host dinners to provide an opportunity for potential new members to get to know them on a deeper level.
Bid Turn-In (BTI)
An E&H tradition between Wiley Jackson & the Chapel! Prior to this event, fraternities and sororities will hand out bids (invitations to join their organization) to potential new members (PNM). Fraternities and Sororities will deliver to PNM rooms. Participants will have allotted time to inform the Director of Student Activities if they have accepted a bid and from what chapter. During the event, participants will announce which chapter they have accepted a bid from.
Greek Service Day
Organizations go out into the surrounding community to participate in Greek Service Day.
New Member Education Week
This is the time period where the new member learns about their Greek organization before initiation. Each organization’s new member education process is different, however, all programs are reported to the Greek Life Specialist and their chapter advisors.
