McCray Sawyers is spending his summer with the Virginia Department of Forestry

Sawyers (E&H ‘23) is majoring in Environmental Studies.

Sawyers is completing a summer internship with the Virginia Department of Forestry. This summer, he has been assisting with harvesting inspections, timber land examinations, pine planting quality checks, maintenance of fire fighting equipment.

“My classes at E&H have helped me during my internship because it gave me an idea of what I would be doing such as protecting water quality and planning proper forest management objectives for landowners,” says Sawyers.

Sawyers has enjoyed gaining hands-on experience in the field that he will go into after graduation.
