EdTech Workshops, Featuring Free EdTech Tools
In addition to providing training and support for institutionally-licensed programs, the E&H Online team develops and hosts regular Educational Technology (EdTech) Workshops for faculty, staff, and students.
In the Fall 2021 term, E&H Online hosted workshops on Moodle, Respondus, and VidGrid, while also introducing five new programs to the campus community: MindMeister, Visme, Screencastify Suite, Socrative, and mmhmm.
In the Moodle workshop, Scott Kitts, Instructional Technologist and Moodle Administrator, provided information on locating and using the Moodle accessibility checker, and setting up gradebooks, activity reminders, and choice activities, forums, and attendance tracking. In conjunction with the Moodle workshop, he also provided a series of workshops on Respondus, E&H’s lockdown browser and exam monitoring program, where participants learned how to add Respondus to their Moodle courses, enable the browser and monitor, and adjust their settings. Dr. Shelby Carico, eLearning Instructional Designer, led a series of workshops on VidGrid, an interactive video platform that allows users to record, edit, host, and share interactive, accessible videos. Participants in the VidGrid workshops learned how to import, record and edit videos, create in-video questions and captions, and share videos.
New to the Fall 2021 EdTech Workshops were sessions on several new, free programs available to all faculty, staff, and students. MindMeister, an online mind-mapping program allows users to map out and share project or task ideas with other users. Visme is an all-content platform that allows its users to create attractive, engaging presentations. Screencastify Suite is the leading screen recorder extension for Google Chrome, that makes recording, editing, and sharing screen recordings and video submission assignments quick and easy. Socrative is a web-based program (also available as an app) that allows for real-time formative assessments, polls, surveys, group activities, and feedback inside and outside of the classroom. Mmhmm is a virtual webcam that allows users to manipulate slides, backgrounds, and their own image to make video conferencing, remote learning, recordings, and presentations more interactive and accessible. Participants in these new workshops learned how to access and download the programs, navigate basic and advanced features, and were also given the opportunity to test the programs using previously created course materials in order to see how the programs might be utilized in their courses.
E&H Online will offer these workshops again in the Spring 2022 term (Schedule). For those who cannot attend the workshops live, or who may have questions regarding a specific program or possible EdTech solutions for their courses, a member of the E&H Online team will happily customize a session to provide a one-on-one training session or workshop.
