Stephen and Jessica Callahan Named 2022 E&H Alumni Award Honorees

Posted by Monica Hoel
Stephen and Jessica Curtis Callahan, members of the E&H Class of 2011, have been named the 2022 recipients of the A.L. Mitchell Young Alumni of the Year Award, given annually by the Emory & Henry Alumni Association.

Stephen and Jessica are well-known throughout East Tennessee and beyond for their establishment of Tennessee Hills Distillery located in the old Salt House in Jonesborough, Tennessee. They’ve been wildly successful at producing quality spirits and their work recently garnered attention from a new business partner. Together they have just expanded into a new Johnson City facility called the Brewstillery, offering craft liquors, beers, and cocktails along with food and live music.

Additionally, these industrious young alumni have plans in the works for a museum that will highlight the history of moonshining in our region. And they are part of an exciting new area of study offered  at East Tennessee State University: Brewing and Distillation Studies.

Stephen and Jessica have also been loyal to their alma mater. Both alums have volunteered for career networking events with current students, they’ve supported E&H alumni programming like More Than A Vacation and our online E&H in the City held in 2021, and they supplied the E&H campus with hand sanitizer at the beginning of the pandemic when the distillery switched from making liquor to making potent sanitizer in little airplane bottles.

Supportive members of the community that they are, they also supplied sanitizer to local law enforcement officials and they’ve been part of community leadership and local government aimed at making Jonesborough a better community.

The Young Alumni Award is given annually to recognize outstanding achievement within the first 15 years after graduation. See other honorees here.

Watch for a video presentation about this year’s honorees to be launched on YouTube on March 24, 2022.
