Of course, we can’t talk about the new Student Success Center without including Gus, a 5-year-old black Labrador retriever who now greets and comforts students all over campus.

He completed years of training with the team at Service Dogs of Virginia (SDOV) before coming to Emory & Henry. As a professionally trained facility dog Gus can serve multiple people who need encouragement to seek help, social interaction, recovery motivation, comfort, and/or a feeling of safety. He is trained to recognize when a person is upset and will offer support.
Todd Stanley, director of the PRC and Counseling Services, spearheaded Gus’ placement at the College and is Gus’ owner and handler.
Emory & Henry College plans to construct two new facilities on property it owns adjacent to Exit 26 off Interstate 81 — a new equestrian center and a new multi-sport complex for track and field, soccer and lacrosse.
