Student-Athletes Earn Academic Honors

The Old Dominion Athletic Conference has recognized 183 E&H student-athletes who have earned academic honors for the 2020-21 academic year. One hundred thirty-seven student-athletes from the College’s 20 ODAC-sponsored programs were named to the ODAC All-Academic Team while an additional 46 from men’s and women’s wrestling, the Intermont Equestrian, cheer and dance teams earned the designation of Emory & Henry All-Academic.

Eligibility for the ODAC All-Academic Team or Emory & Henry Scholar-Athlete is open to any student-athlete who participates in an E&H varsity sport, regardless of academic class. He or she must achieve at least a 3.25 grade point average for the year to be considered.

    Loved Ones Remembered

    The Department of World Languages and students created an altar on display in Wiley Hall to recognize Dia de los Muertos—the Day of the Dead—a holiday celebrated on Nov. 1. Dia de los Muertos honors the dead with festivals and lively celebrations, a typically Latin American custom that combines indigenous Aztec ritual with Catholicism. Students participated by leaving their paintings in honor of loved ones on the altar.

  • Literary Festival Celebrates Appalachian Literature & Music

    The 39th Annual Literary Festival was held in October in the Black Box Theatre of the McGlothlin Center for the Arts. Appalachian Literature and Music was the theme and Rita Sims Quillen was the featured author. Quillen’s new novel Wayland, a depression-era novel, was published in 2019 by Iris Press. Her latest poetry collection, Some Notes You Hold, was released in 2020 from Madville Press.
