E&H Promotes Student Awareness of Sexual Assault

A national student awareness program, The Hook Up, was launched on campus on Nov. 8 with two presentations at the McGlothlin Center for the Arts.

The program’s purpose is to begin conversations on how gender stereotypes contribute to rape culture and harm survivors. The program unpacks the practice of hooking-up, and identifies the differences between healthy hook-ups, regretted hook-ups, and sexual assault. The program closes using the information learned about perpetrators’ motives and behaviors in order to devise successful bystander intervention strategies and decrease a community’s tolerance for sexual predation.

The Dean of Students, Department of Athletics, the Title IX Office and the Office of New Student Experience sponsored the program.

Students participated by leaving their paintings in honor of loved ones on the altar.
