More Than A Vacation Turns 25

Posted by Monica Hoel
Emory & Henry’s summer alumni college (More Than A Vacation) celebrated a 25th anniversary this summer.

All living E&H presidents participated in the 25th anniversary celebration of Emory & Henry’s signature summer alumni college, More Than A Vacation (MTAV).

That was only one of the great memories from 2018 as friends looked back to a lot of great memories, danced at the “Faux Formal” with the Wolf Hills Jazz Band, learned about athlete Monte Weaver, and visited West Jefferson, North Carolina.

There was a lunch at Shatley Springs where the owner gave us the history.

We revived our political discussion and learned of how we became so polarized.

There were tough discussions about what we can learn from Civil War history in 2018 and the rise of the white supremacy movement.

There was a presentation by a children’s author about how children’s books can help us envision a more inclusive world.

There was birding, there were microplastics, and there was a wine and chocolate pairing. And, we got to hang out with author Adriana Trigiani!

There was laughter, and tears, as we remembered friends lost – and plenty of hugs as we met new friends to love.

Mark your calendar as we start planning for MTAV 26. We’ll gather for more great times July 24-28, 2019.
