You’ve done a lot in your time at Emory & Henry in a relatively short time.  What would you say has enabled you to be successful?

The support of friends, family, and professors have made all the difference in my time at E&H. If I ever feel like I am struggling in a particular class or just with life in general, I know that I have a network of amazing people that will help me through it. Being able to go to any professors’ office and get honest advice on my classes or for future job opportunities has helped me navigate the last four years with much less stress. I also believe that being able to work one on one with professors in research and being a tutor has given me experience and friendships that are unique to small schools, especially one as great as Emory.

What advice would you give those who are thinking about majoring in chemistry?

Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. When I first came to college, I wasn’t used to asking for help in any of my classes because I thought that meant I wasn’t smart enough to get it on my own. Don’t fall into the same trap I did! Ask for help, go to office hours, ask questions in class, go to study sessions, ask your friends in class, and do the suggested problems in the book. It isn’t bad to ask for help, and all of the professors and supplemental instructors are always happy to answer questions. 

You’ve recently been offered full time employment at Eastman Chemical Company.  Can you tell us a little about what you will be doing?

I was offered a technician position in the Corporate Analytical Division at Eastman. I will work under a PhD chemist alongside other technicians to help troubleshoot issues in products that have been sold to Eastman customers.
