You’ve done a lot in your time at Emory & Henry in a relatively short time. What would you say has enabled you to be successful?
I would say that my success is due mostly to the community of friends, classmates, and professors that support me at every step of my undergraduate career.
What advice would you give those who are thinking about majoring in chemistry?
My advice is to never underestimate your abilities as a student and be prepared to surprise yourself with the amount of knowledge you gain. One of the most important lessons to learn is how to fail, but when you do fail never be afraid to ask for help from professors because they are there to help and guide you to an understanding of the material.
You’ve recently been offered a summer research fellowship to pursue work at Virginia Tech. Can you tell us a little about what you will be doing?
This summer I will be doing research at the StREAM Lab at Virginia Tech, where I will be helping with two graduate research projects that are evaluating surface water to groundwater interactions. I will also have an opportunity to complete a project of my design that is tangential to the current research being done by the graduate students.
