Blake Logan
This summer Blake had the opportunity to work with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries as a technician. He and his coworkers sampled local reservoirs using an electrofishing boat, which uses an electrical current to temporarily stun any fish within a ten foot radius of the boat. This temporary stun allows the researchers to quickly net, or “dip,” the fish and collect valuable data before releasing them again. Blake also worked at the Buller Fish Hatchery, Marion Fish Hatchery, and the Aquatic Wildlife Conservation Center near Marion, VA. “It was an incredible learning experience and I hope to work with VDGIF again in the future.”
