  • Program Objectives

The Engineering Science program at Emory & Henry College seeks to produce engineer scientists who will understand:

    • the value of leading a productive life and becoming responsible citizens with a global perspective
    • how to apply the knowledge and skills acquired through both liberal arts and engineering curricula to positively contribute to their profession and society
    • the synergy between the physical and/or life sciences and engineering analysis and design, leading to the solution of problems often of an interdisciplinary nature
    • the importance of lifelong learning by developing a career plan that would include activities such as graduate education, professional development, specialized training, etc.

The Engineering Science program will produce engineer scientists who will succeed in finding professional employment or enroll in graduate degree programs.

  • Student Learning Outcomes

Graduates of the program will have an understanding of the concepts of engineering science as demonstrated by:

    • an ability to apply principles of mathematics, science, and engineering in a variety of contexts
    • an ability to design and conduct experiments, as well as to analyze and interpret data
    • an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, and/or manufacturability and sustainability
    • an ability to participate in projects that cross disciplines and to function on multi-disciplinary teams
    • an ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems

Graduates of the program will have the skills necessary for success in the field of engineering science as demonstrated by:

    • an ability to use the techniques, skills, and tools necessary for science and engineering practice
    • an understanding of professional and ethical responsibility
    • an ability to communicate effectively as an engineer
    • a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long learning
