Homecoming Alumni Lecture

This year’s featured speaker is Dr. Stephanie Edwards Compton, E&H Class of 2016.

Dr. Stephanie Edwards Compton received her Ph.D. studying ovarian cancer metabolism in the Department of Human Nutrition, Foods and Exercise at Virginia Tech, studying Molecular and Cellular Science. Her research involved investigating obesity, substrate utilization, and metabolism in ovarian cancer under Dr. Eva Schmelz. She has finished an ISPP dietetic internship at Virginia Tech. She is a Registered Dietician and is doing post doctoral work in cancer research at Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge. She graduated in 2018 from Virginia Tech with her Masters of Science in Behavioral and Community Science and Dietetics, and in 2016 from Emory & Henry College with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. As an aspiring nutrition professional, she strives to bridge the gap in the translational spectrum to improve nutrition education and care. She also seeks to delve into the relationships between nutrition and cancer, in order to expand our knowledge as well as provide evidence-based care to cancer patients and survivors as well as for prevention. Dr. Compton says she “strongly believes in the connection between nutrition science and practice” and she strives to bring the two together.
