Agreement Between Virginia Highlands Community College And Emory & Henry College Confirmed
On Monday, Nov. 11 in the Calliopean Room of Byars Hall on the Emory & Henry College’s main campus, President John W. Wells of Emory & Henry and Interim President Charles White of Virginia Highlands Community College met and signed a Concurrent Admission Agreement.
The Concurrent Admission Agreement will support students to take one class at the 300 level or higher (3-4 credits) free of tuition during the second year at Virginia Highlands Community College, prior to full-time enrollment at Emory & Henry. Virginia Highlands Community College students will start to have access to programs at Emory & Henry as well, such as use of the library, cafeteria, sports and theatre events when they are currently enrolled. Also included in the signing is the ability for Virginia Highlands Community College graduates to seamlessly transfer to Emory & Henry without extra applications or fees. Students will be eligible to receive financial aid awards upon enrollment at Emory & Henry, among other benefits.
The signing came about after both institutions recognized the need to facilitate more opportunities for students from Virginia Highlands Community College to continue their education at Emory & Henry. “I’m happy it’s easier on transfers,” said Chris Robertson, a current senior at Emory & Henry College who transferred from Virginia Highlands Community College. “The amount of attention and care both institutions have for their students really makes you not feel like just a number and ensures a great education for us.”
Both institutions currently have a Guaranteed Admissions Agreement in place, allowing for qualified students to be automatically accepted into Emory & Henry upon completion of an Arts and Sciences Associate’s degree at Virginia Highlands Community College, as well as more than 20 individual Transfer Pathway Program agreements.
