Stanley Recognized with Humanitarian Award
In early November of this year, Todd Stanley, Powell Resource Center director and director of counseling services, received an award from the Virginia Counselors Association (VCA). The award he received was the Humanitarian and Caring Person Award. From the VCA website:
“The Humanitarian and Caring Person Award is an annual award established to recognize a member who truly cares for the welfare of others and who cares about social issues and problems. What is sought is the honoring of persons who give to others without fanfare or expectation of reward other than personal satisfaction in seeing other persons made happier or the social milieu given more integrity.”
“I am deeply honored to have received VCA’s Humanitarian and Caring Person Award,” Stanley said. “I have been a VCA member for approximately 20 years and am so proud of the counseling profession.”
The qualifications for the award are as follows: The recipient shall be a member in good standing of the VCA in the year the award is made. The recipient shall also be recognized as having the greatest impact on the lives of others through caring, have evidenced concern about human beings in special ways through caring behavior, which is documented and generally recognized by peers, and finally, to have involvement over a period of time in a cause or situation which benefits others, not self.
“Counselors are working in a variety of settings throughout Virginia, such as schools, agencies, colleges, hospitals, etc. They’re showing up every day and striving to help people live their best lives,” Stanley said. “I am so fortunate that my professional identity as a counselor affords me the opportunity to demonstrate my care for others and concern for the world around me. Receiving this award gives me the opportunity to celebrate all counselors and that feels great. I also love opportunities to draw attention to the great work being done here at Emory & Henry!”
Stanley joined the PRC team in 2015. He is a native of Southwest Virginia, a graduate of Radford University, and has more than 15 years of experience in the field of counseling services. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, Todd provides leadership to the PRC team and mental health counseling to students. He also provides student services within multiple PRC programs, such as Academic Success and Disability Support Services.
