Treash Honored with Arts Alliance Achievement Award
Treash has volunteered with the Birthplace of Country Music and Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion for over 13 years.
“I am humbled to be recognized by the Arts Alliance Mountain Empire with this achievement,” says Treash. “It’s an honor to be involved with the Birthplace of Country Music, and any recognition that I get from my work there is indeed a reflection on the staff and volunteers that have become family to me.”
During his 13 years working with the Birthplace of Country Music and Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion, Treash has served in a variety of roles. In 2007, he first served on the Bristol Rhythm & Roots Music Committee, where he helped procure talent for the annual festival. Today, he continues to serve on this committee that he has also chaired several times. In 2017, Treash served as chair of the entire music festival during the 90th anniversary of the Bristol Sessions.
In 2016, he joined the Birthplace of Country Music Board, which oversees the festival, The Birthplace of Country Music Museum, and Radio Bristol. He currently serves on the executive committee for the board as well as the board of directors for Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion.
“Volunteering for Bristol Rhythm & Roots was my first real civic engagement, and beyond just entrenching myself in the music – my time with BCM has grown my roots to this area to where I can’t imagine living somewhere else,” says Treash.
A 2001 graduate of Emory & Henry, Treash returned to his alma mater after spending nearly 10 years at WCYB as a videographer. He spent eight years as Director of Media Relations before transitioning to the Director of Athletic Communications. He also teaches courses in the Mass Communications department.
“My own civic engagement has inspired me to make the arts and the impact on the local community a portion of my curriculum as a faculty member as much as possible,” says Treash. “Mass communications students are walking away with skills that every non-profit and arts organization is in desperate need of assistance with in some form or fashion. I encourage my students to find groups that meet their interests and volunteer to give back.”
Other honorees include Gary Aday, Steve Baskett, Mary Lucy Bivins and Miles Marek.
