Emory & Henry senior Madison McKinsey pursues Masters degree

Our Emory & Henry seniors are preparing to graduate and change the world.

Madison McKinsey will graduate in May 2020 with a degree in Biology. After graduation, she will be attending the College of William & Mary to pursue a Masters in Biology with a Microbiology Concentration.

“Emory & Henry provided me with a diverse set of opportunities,” says McKinsey. “From expanding my scientific knowledge through independent research to helping with local outreach programs to get today’s youth involved in science, I had many experiences sharing my passion with others.”

McKinsey adds, “Outside of the sciences, I was able to engage in study abroad experiences, volunteer work, and diverse organizations which heightened my cultural awareness and appreciation for my community.”

McKinsey served in leadership roles for Delta Omicron Pi, Dom-I-Necher, Blue Key, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, the Honors Program, and the Intermont Equestrian team. McKinsey was also a supplemental instructor for General Biology and Intro to Biology courses.

“My professors have played a crucial role in my educational and professional development, and their doors have always been open for questions, support, and great conversation,” says McKinsey. “Because of this, my professors have learned to know me on a deeper level and been able to provide meaningful recommendations for my future endeavors. I am especially thankful for the support of my professors such as Dr. Argyros, Dr. Fleet, and Dr. Lane.”

After obtaining her Masters degree, McKinsey hopes to pursue a career in microbiological research.
