Emory & Henry graduates 34 students with Masters of Occupational Therapy

On Saturday, December 12, 34 students at the School of Health Sciences (SHS) graduated with a Masters of Occupational Therapy in a virtual ceremony.

Graduates were from 13 different states, including Virginia, Tennessee, North Carolina, Alabama, Illinois, Florida, South Carolina, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Texas, Oregon and New Jersey. One Emory & Henry alumni was part of the graduating class.

“We are thrilled to graduate this talented class of future occupational therapists,” said Lou Fincher, Vice President of the School of Health Sciences at Emory & Henry College. “There is a huge demand for rural healthcare practitioners and we know that many of our students will practice in mid-Appalachia and other rural areas in our country.”

Jill Jachino, president of MOT Class of 2020, gave the student address. The keynote speaker was Dr. Salvador L. Bondoc, professor and chair of occupational therapy and director of the masters of occupational therapy program at Quinnipiac University. Dr. Bondoc is actively engaged in service to the occupational therapy profession.

“We are so proud of the MOT Class of 2020 and their academic achievements,” says Dr. John W. Wells, president of Emory & Henry College. “The class of 2020 has persevered through these unprecedented times, demonstrating great resilience and unwavering commitment to the goal of becoming a professional healthcare provider.”

The School of Health Sciences at Emory & Henry College was launched in 2014 with the goal of preparing compassionate, patient-centered, highly-skilled health care professionals who not only provide quality healthcare to their patients but also actively engage in leadership and service opportunities within their professional organizations and communities. The SHS includes three undergraduate programs (Exercise Science, Nursing RN to BSN and Pre-Health) housed primarily on the main campus and three graduate programs (Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Physician Assistant Studies) at the School of Health Sciences campus in Marion. The School of Nursing is expected to launch in Spring 2021.
