Emory & Henry names Dr. Lisa Withers new Dean of School of Arts & Sciences

Dr. Lisa Withers, associate professor of music at Emory & Henry, has been named the new Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences.

“I am looking forward to working with Lisa as Dean of the School of Arts & Sciences,” says Dr. Mike Puglisi, Emory & Henry College Provost. “Our goal in creating this new position is to ensure that the arts and sciences disciplines remain vibrant, relevant and innovative in the educational experience that we offer at Emory & Henry. Lisa’s experience and vision are in line with those goals, and she will be a valuable addition to our academic leadership team.”

Dr. Withers joined the faculty of Emory & Henry College in 2002. She earned her B.A. in Music Education from Alderson Broaddus College, her Master of Music in Piano Pedagogy and Performance from the University of Michigan, and her Doctor of Musical Arts from West Virginia University. She is currently serving as chair of the Music Department and Director of CORE 200, and has served as chair of the Division of Visual & Performing Arts, the Director of the McGlothlin Center for the Arts, and President of the Virginia Music Teachers Association.

“I am extremely excited to provide leadership and support for the faculty and students of the School of Arts and Sciences at E&H as we continue to build on our long tradition of innovative teaching and learning that prepares students for success and meaning in their careers and lives after graduation,” says Dr. Withers. “I plan to focus on drawing on the wisdom of our faculty and staff to forge new collaborations and partnerships within the School, the College, and with community partners in our region. Emory & Henry College has provided me with a wonderful place to teach and grow for 18 years, and I am delighted to be able to contribute towards its bright future in this way.”
