Nationally Ranked Emory & Henry College Rugby Program to host Cardinal College Rugby Conference Tournament

Emory & Henry College’s Rugby Program, nationally ranked, is hosting the Cardinal College Rugby Conference Tournament on Saturday, November 6 and Sunday, November 7 beginning at 10 a.m.

Games will be taking place simultaneously in the Fred Selfe Stadium and on the Rugby Field, both on the Emory campus. Attendance is free.

The Cardinal College Rugby Conference consists of colleges across the state of Virginia, including College of William & Mary, University of Richmond, James Madison University, Roanoke College and Longwood University.

“Emory & Henry is proud to be the host to this year’s Cardinal College Rugby Conference Tournament,” says Dylan Johnson, director of campus recreation. “This event is a testament to the success of both Men’s and Women’s Rugby Teams here at the College and the support the administration of the College has for these programs. We are excited to invite the competitors to our beautiful campus in Southwest Virginia and are grateful to the Commissioner of the CCRC for allowing us to serve as the site of this historic tournament.”

The Men’s Rugby team is currently undefeated with a 5-0 record and nationally ranked 14th in the Small College Men’s Division of National Collegiate Rugby. More information can be found at www.ncrugby.org/.

“We are excited and proud to be nationally ranked through National Collegiate Rugby,” says Coach Tom O’Neill. “We have had many obstacles this season including lower numbers of players and injuries. Our team has persevered and has performed well. While we are not satisfied as there are still more games to be played, including the conference tournament, we are grateful to be seen as a top program in the country.”

This event is a testament to the success of both Men’s and Women’s Rugby Teams here at the College and the support the administration of the College has for these programs.
