Emory & Henry invites E&H community to recognize Veterans Day

The Emory & Henry community is invited to a program to recognize Veterans Day on Thursday, November 11.

At 10 a.m. on Thursday, November 11, the cadets in the ROTC program will march from Martin-Brock to Carriger, to Stuart, to Weaver and end at the Board of Visitors Room (BOV) in Van Dyke. At each building, the cadets will stop and post the colors.

At 11 a.m., the program will begin in the BOV. During the brief program, veterans from all branches will be recognized, and music will be provided by members of the E&H Brass Faculty Brass Quintet. 

Tom Bowen will give the keynote address. Bowen is from Tazewell County, Va., and participated in the Army ROTC program at Virginia Tech, where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army upon graduation. Bowen reported for duty at Fort Gordon, Ga., for Signal Corp Officer training. From there, he went to Fort Sill, Okla., for more training and then to Fort Benning, Ga., for Jump School. He spent the remainder of his three-year tour of duty at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he was in the 50th Airborne Signal Battalion, which supported the command communications for the 82nd and the 101st Airborne Divisions.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to write a thank you note that will be sent to those currently serving in the military.
