Gaskins Named Project Coordinator for Office on Violence Against Women
In her new role, she will facilitate the creation of and maintains a campus Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT) to assist with development, promotion, and evaluation of the College’s policies and activities related to sexual assault, domestic and dating violence, and stalking (SDDVS) and collaborate with the College’s CCRT to implement SDDVS training, awareness, and prevention activities. She will represent the College on the Washington County/Bristol City/Smyth County CCRT; implement mandatory prevention and education training for all incoming students at new student orientation (including tracking to ensure every student is trained); coordinate and implement bystander training for all new undergraduate students, and ensures that student affairs sanctions for students who do not complete training are carried out; and create and manage a section of the College’s website for education materials regarding SDDVS prevention and intervention.
“I intend to create an impactful program that would both empower and facilitate care, resources, and knowledge for helping survivors of trauma,” said Gaskins. “ The updated and improved program would enhance the campus with resources and knowledge that feels more inclusive, safer and supportive. Emory & Henry College has done an amazing job with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives and made great strides to make an all-inclusive campus. I was thoroughly excited upon learning of the DEI Student Organizations, the Peace House, many faculty and staff with Safe Zone training, the Interfaith Student Union, and the Interfaith Prayer Room. I hope to work closely with the DEI Office and Spiritual Life to ensure all students, faculty, and staff feel respected and their voices heard. My hope is to spread and integrate the program across campus thoroughly, so students anywhere on campus can feel supported in any setting, class, organization, or social setting.”
Gaskins joins the College after serving as a Victim Advocate/Volunteer and Intern Coordinator at the YWCA of NETN and SWVA, Bristol, TN in their victim advocacy program YW CARES and the Sullivan County Criminal Justice Case Manager, Frontier Health, Kingsport, TN. She is a graduate of East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, TN and Northeast State Community College, Blountville, TN with degrees in Social Work and is certified with the National Organization for Victim Assistance’s National Advocate Credentialing Program as a Nationally Credentialed Victim Advocate at the Provisional Level; CPR – American Heart Association; Safe Zone Ally and Facilitator - The Safe Zone Project; and Safe at Home Application Assistant – State of Tennessee.
