Village Construction Ahead of Schedule
Eight new residence halls in total, including six apartment-style halls, and a community center will be added to two existing residence halls in an area located just across the railroad tracks from the main campus. The design and layout of the facilities, which provide 197-beds, will be a first for the College in its design and layout.
Work on the project began in the fall of 2016, and a mild winter has allowed construction to be several weeks ahead.
The weather has been good, but the real success story is the teamwork. From the college administration to the sub-contractors, everyone involved with the project has worked well together in a way that will not only help us finish the residence halls ahead of schedule but also save money that we can invest to improve other areas of The Village.

Director of Capital Design, Construction and Project Management
The design of The Village is centered on an apartment style layout with the goal of preparing upperclass students for their transition to post-college life. The units have a shared living room and kitchen and three bedrooms with two students in each and two full bathrooms for a 3:1 ratio. There is a shared covered porch for each unit as well. The living spaces are expected to be completed and fully furnished by August 5.
The community building will house living room/study spaces, a workout room, central laundry and mailboxes for the residents, a game room, an office/copy center, kitchen, dining room and three different size classrooms along with an apartment for the resident director. The building was designed to be the hub of student activity as well as a place for other campus functions. The community center will be completed by early September, however, the first floor featuring the mail and laundry facilities will be accessible to students at the beginning of the school year.
The new construction will feature building standards that meet the college’s pledge to be carbon neutral by 2025. The overall layout of the project will promote walkability, have bike racks and recycling stations, highly insulated exterior wall design, highly efficient mechanical design, LED light fixtures with energy efficient control systems and an innovative stormwater management design.
Other updates in The Village include the updating of the exterior of the train depot that currently houses the college’s athletics training. Several parking lots, including a recently created overflow lot near the depot, will be paved as well.
