Emory & Henry Only Undergraduate College in Virginia to be Named Best Value School
Emory & Henry College is the only undergraduate college in Virginia to be named a Best Value School Award by one of the top online resources for students to find colleges that provide a valuable education.
For the second year, the Best Value School website highlighted Emory & Henry College’s top rating by students as something that “stood out as one of the most loved schools we’ve encountered.” In explaining this love, Best Value Schools focused on the beautiful campus, caring professors and the warm student community.
“We found that the small enrollment (about 1,100), young and diverse student body (almost all under 25, and 40% from out of state), and a group of popular academic programs all contributed to the overwhelmingly positive response by current and former students,” stated the website in the winning description.
Emory & Henry College was also highly praised for outstanding academic programs and a reasonable cost to attend. In particular, the $21,000 average “net cost to attend” for first-time, full-time students (according to the Education Department’s publicly available data) makes the college “sensibly priced,” according to Best Value Colleges.
“We’re glad to be recognized for the unique college that we are in beautiful southwest Virginia,” said Provost John Wells. “We’re a community of explorers, connectors and difference makers. Increasing excellence in all that we do, drives our day to day work and relationships.”
Emory & Henry also scored high thanks to the campus-based education and popular degree programs including education (bachelor, master), and bachelor programs in biology, business, social science and visual/performance arts.
“This is a unique school that may well be an ideal place to not only learn but also to journey from late teens to young adulthood. There are plenty of reasons its students love the place; we’re sure you could find a few yourself,” noted the award comments.
Best Value Schools was founded by former college and university presidents and CEOs, and advised by experienced academics and outside experts. Best value designations have been awarded since 2013. The full list of eighty colleges and universities can be found at www.bestvaluecolleges.org.
About Best Value School Awards
The prestigious Best Value School Award goes to colleges, universities and career schools that deserve recognition. The award isn’t based on metrics. It’s a more personalized, in-depth look at what makes an institution stand out. Our experienced team of higher education executives, academics and entrepreneurs understand the challenges faced by schools and students; all too often, they cannot find each other as they compete for space in a crowd of larger, less student-friendly, expensive brand-name institutions.
Having been through our review and evaluation process, Best Value School Award recipients offer students a unique balance of academics, student life – whether on campus or online - and financial manageability. This award is a far cry from traditional ranking systems, and the schools that are recognized are quite unique in how they approach and treat students.
