Rugby Club Finishes Successful Season

The rugby team has finished a successful season, placing in second in the CCRC (Cardinals Collegiate Rugby Conference) Division. Finishing with a winning season of four wins and two losses, the E&H Rugby team has come into its own after beginning as a small interest group just two years ago.

“This season’s success has not come lightly and we’ve been working hard to make our place here,” said Jack Harris, Senior member from Orangeville, IL.  “We began as a handful of guys barely able to fill all the positions, and now it feels like we’re growing and winning in a sustainable way with a full team.”

Echoing the team’s winning season is the awarding of Coach of the Year to Tom O’Neill of Greensboro, NC, who has been with the team since the beginning in 2016. “It’s nice to be awarded and recognized but it’s even better to know the team feels like winners. This is a tough sport and requires sincere dedication from our players. Nothing speaks to that more than this award, a winning season and having four of our guys selected for a spot in the conference’s All-Star team.”

Named to the conference’s All-Star team in the CCRC All-Star Small College Division Teams are: Sophomore David Doss of Abingdon, VA, 1st team; Junior Jonathon Silvers, 2nd team; Senior Kauhil King of Mobile, AL, 2nd team; and Freshman David Pratt, Reserves.  These Emory & Henry athletes traveled to Raleigh, NC on Nov. 10 to play the Southern Conference All-Conference sides in a new tradition for the Conference.

This is a tough sport and requires sincere dedication from our players. Nothing speaks to that more than this award, a winning season and having four of our guys selected for a spot in the conference’s All-Star team.
