Mungai Represents E&H at the United Nations

Samuel Mungai has accepted a summer internship with the United Nations TV and Radio section in Geneva, Switzerland. His time at Emory & Henry has prepared him well for his internship.

Samuel Mungai is is a Swiss-American student currently traveling abroad in Europe for the semester. While abroad, Sam interviewed and accepted an internship with the United Nations TV and Radio section stationed in Geneva, Switzerland. Sam is a Mass Communications and French double major here at the College, and his experiences with EHC-TV, WEHC 90.7 FM and the foreign language department has helped to prepare him for all that his new internship will ask of him and propelled him above the other candidates.

“I feel prepared for this internship and I have been able to experience how an actual station operates because of my time with WEHC 90.7 FM and EHC-TV. My time in those places has been a big part of my life,” Sam said of his experiences at Emory & Henry. “I was able to show my familiarity with their equipment while the other applicants seemed to lack some of the basics.” Sam’s duties with the UNTV and Radio will include attending international press briefings, editing news worthy coverage, performing interviews and supporting the station with research. A fluency in French was also required. The internship is a full-time, three month agreement.

Sam came to Emory & Henry College because it had what he needed. “Emory & Henry just stood out to me. The kind staff and faculty felt welcoming, it had a nice diversity of the international community, and it was willing to accept all the credits I was bringing with me from high school. Other schools fought me on that.”

Though Sam has dual-citizenship, he stayed in the United States for school. He hopes to return to his home country of Switzerland after graduate school with all the knowledge he has acquired here. “I cannot wait to return to Emory & Henry and finish my undergraduate degree. I doubt I’ll ever forget that place when I leave.”
