E&H Partners with Washington County Public Schools for Future Educators
In an effort to provide opportunities to high school students interested in becoming K-12 educators, Emory & Henry College has partnered with Washington County Public School’s Teachers For Tomorrow program. A signing of support took place in the library of Patrick Henry High School on Friday, May 17 with Jake B. Schrum, president of Emory & Henry College. “Good teachers are some of the most valuable assets to a community. Good teachers provide a community with educated youths who then go on to become an educated workforce,” Schrum said of the agreement. “This partnership ensures that anyone who wants to undertake the path of becoming an educator will be provided all they need to do so through Emory & Henry.”
High school students who are a part of the Washington County Public School’s Teachers For Tomorrow program will receive benefits from Emory & Henry because of the new agreement. Benefits include a mentoring agreement between the student and Emory & Henry faculty, college credit for education courses and automatic entry into the first-year class upon completion, increased opportunities for scholarships, and on-campus experiences with the Teacher Prep Program. Current teachers in the program will also receive benefits of Clinical Faculty status at Emory & Henry, co-trainings with the E&H Education Department, and co-teaching opportunities.
“The Emory & Henry College Education Division is proud to partner with Washington County Public Schools’ Teachers for Tomorrow program,” said Sandy Frederick, Assistant Professor of Education. “Our hope is to encourage those individuals who have a heart for children and a passion for learning to become the next generation of inspiring educators.”
