Quillen Goes Above and Beyond

Brice Quillen finished her academic career at Emory & Henry strong. She has done so much in the past year alone, including studying abroad and setting up a charity race for Guatemalans looking for clean water.

Elizabeth Brice Quillen (Marion, Va.) is a great example of someone who goes the extra mile in her personal and academic life. She recently graduated with the Class of 2019 as a triple major in Business Management, Spanish Language and Commerce, and Geography. She was honored in the Global Scholars Ceremony for her travels to Costa Rica and Brazil, and the Appalachian Ceremony for her nativity to the region. She was awarded the Outstanding Senior Award on Awards Day for both the Geography and Business Departments, as well as the Academic Excellence Award for the Foreign Language and Geography Departments. Quillen is currently studying abroad again in Europe. “The best thing I enjoy about the College is all the opportunity it has given me,” Brice said about her time here at Emory & Henry. “I’ve been abroad to two different countries so far, all funded by the College. I wouldn’t have been able to afford leaving this country on my own, and now I’m going again this summer to London and Paris!”

She has truly taken advantage of all Emory & Henry has to offer, and she has done so with a selfless attitude and a goal to help as many people as she can. For her Senior Project in the Foreign Language Department, Brice wanted to go above and beyond a normal research project and help the people of Guatemala. After months of planning and getting the proper permissions, she orchestrated a charity race called the Walk for Water. “The average distance a Guatemalan walks a day is two miles. The water is not clean water either as it comes right from the river,” Quillen said of why she chose Guatemala to benefit. “They use this water for cooking, cleaning, bathing and so much more. The funds from this race will go towards helping Guatemalans build wells closer to their homes.”

Brice Quillen hasn’t made up her mind on what she wants to do following her graduation because of the many possibilities she has earned. She knows she wants to go pursue an MBA, but she also wants to work for a few years beforehand. She wants to end up in global relations, possibly in manufacturing. “I hope to end up in global relations so that I can travel as my job!” When asked which countries she wants to visit next, she answered, “all of them.”
