Taequan Kates
As a student at Emory & Henry, I majored in Philosophy, Political Science, and Economics (PPE). This unique interdisciplinary major addressed my interests in ethics, law, and public policy. I am currently entering my second year of law school at North Carolina Central University School of Law. This past summer, I had the distinct honor and privilege to intern for the Honorable Rossie Alston Jr. at the Virginia Court of Appeals, Manassas office. I prepared bench briefs for Judge Alston Jr. to review before hearing a case, helped write opinions for various cases, and completed one-judge edits. Clerking for Judge Alston Jr. was truly an amazing experience and I gained valuable knowledge and insight regarding my future legal career. My courses in Law & Economics and Contemporary Problems of Justice at Emory & Henry College provided me with a solid foundation to a variety of important legal topics and concepts. I am grateful that Emory & Henry offers the PPE major. It is one of those rare jewels that only a small liberal arts college can provide and it has been inspirational and foundational in the formation of my career goals.
