Victoria Akua Poku

Extra-curriculars: Resident Advisor on campus

Projects: I’m conducting a research project with Dr. Sorensen on opioid addiction. We are completing a systematic review focused on the published risk factors. This research will be submitted for publication.

What you think is most important about your Sociology courses: Sociology teaches us the social problems of the world, and my courses help me to understand the development, structure, and functioning of human society.

Plans for after graduation: I plan to work for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) or World Health Organization (WHO), and also attend graduate school in Maryland.

Advice for other students considering Sociology or Sociology majors: If you choose Sociology, you will learn how parts of society fit together and change, and it’s mind blowing.
