I am currently working with the Biology faculty and the community to work with cortisol (stress hormone) levels in shelter dogs. My project includes taking saliva samples from some local shelter dogs to see if there is any relation between high cortisol levels and dog aggression. My goal is to find a reason for aggression in shelter dogs to find a solution and reduce euthanasia in shelter animals. The biology staff and community have been very open and helpful to my project. In the end, it’s about saving as many animal lives as possible. It is just a bonus that I get to play with the dogs.
