“A comparison of Antibiotic Resistance Levels in populations of wild and domesticated horses (Equus ferus caballus)”
I’m continuing the research of previous students to further understand, and monitor over time, the level of antibiotic resistance that is present in wild and domesticated horse populations. These horses are exposed to not only different levels of human contact, but also different environmental conditions and levels of veterinary care that could contribute to the overall antibiotic resistance.
This summer, I traveled to North Dakota to collect fecal samples from a semi-feral herd. I’ve spent the summer processing these samples, and am hopeful the data will add an additional, and unique, perspective to the study.
