Mary June Wall Scholarship for Clinical Mental Health/ Addiction Counseling
Mary June Wall was a professor at what is now known as James Madison University. Her brother, David Byer Wall, experienced mental illness and was the primary inspiration for her charitable donations. He lived in a group home near Emory & Henry College and died at the age of 71 on September 11, 2000.
This scholarship, designed to support the education and training of mental health counselors, is awarded in his honor. It is funded annually in the amount of $5,000.
The deadline to apply for the scholarship is July 1 each year.

TO BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP, THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA MUST BE MET:
1). The applicant must be an incoming accepted student in the Master’s program in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or Addiction Counseling.
2). The applicant must have demonstrated financial need.
3). The applicant must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.2.
4). The applicant must submit the name and contact information for 3 professional references that may be contacted by the scholarship committee.
5). The applicant must submit a 2-3 page essay addressing the following points: the reasons that they want to become a clinical mental health counselor, what population(s) they are most interested in working with, what can be done to address the stigma that exists around seeking treatment for mental health concerns, and how this scholarship would make a difference in their access to education.
