Learning Materials

Best Practices

Learning Materials need to be aligned with the Learning Objectives, Learning Activities, and Assessments.

Learning Materials provide important core information that students will learn, apply, and experience in the course. They require careful planning, selection, organization, and utilization in a course in order to create excellence in students’ learning experience.

Consider the following questions when you select learning materials for your courses:

  • Are the learning materials aligned with stated Learning Objectives?
  • What will learners explore?
  • What will learners achieve after completing the course?
  • How will you ensure interaction and engagement with learners?

Important Note:

  • For lecture or educational videos, please make sure to provide captions or transcripts to meet Accessibility Standards. Refer to How to Add Video Captions.
  • If the library has an electronic copy of the book, please use permlinks to link the material.
  • If the library has a physical copy, please submit an ereserve request and work with a librarian to have the learning materials integrated with your Moodle course site.
    • Provide a direct purchase link for a textbook or publisher’s e-portal that learners will need to purchase.
    • For the learning materials that learners will not be purchasing, explore E&H library and see if it already has a copy of the book chapters, articles, etc. (unless they are within public domain and under Creative Commons licenses).
