How do I pay for study abroad?
E&H Passport Project
The Office of International Education provides grants for all students who apply for passports to study abroad. For more information contact international@ehc.edu Deadline: November 1, 2023.

E&H Abroad Courses - There is no additional tuition for the E&H Abroad Courses offered during the regular semester; however, students must pay a program fee, which varies by course. If students wish to use financial aid to help with the E&H course program fee and the additional expenses associated with these programs, they should meet with a representative in the Financial Aid Office to determine what aid will apply. This meeting should take place before the student applies to the E&H Abroad program.
All students who are apply for E&H Abroad faculty-led courses will be considered for a travel grant of $500, $1000, $1500, or $2000 depending upon financial need as determined by the Financial Aid Office. Students will be informed of their grant amount no more than 10 days after the application deadline. If a student does not want to proceed with their application and commit to paying the program fee after being informed of the travel grant amount, they will have until 15 days after the application deadline to contact the Office of International Education at international@ehc.edu to withdraw their application. Semester & Summer Abroad -
For semester abroad, Emory & Henry College has a list of approved programs from which students can choose. Students stay enrolled at E&H while they are abroad for a semester in these exchange partner programs. If you want to study abroad for a semester in a location not included in our exchange offerings, you can choose to study with an affiliate program. In order to enroll in an affiliate program, students must take a short leave of absence from E&H and pay directly to the provider.
In these programs, students
- Pay regular tuition to Emory & Henry College
- Pay the housing costs to the university abroad and any additional fees required by the host institution (e.g., meals, insurance, lab fees, etc.
All students who are approved to study abroad for a semester or summer are considered for a travel grant ranging from $1000 to $2000 to assist with airfare and other costs. You apply for this grant in your study abroad application here. Deadline is Nov. 1 prior to the year or summer of study abroad.
Intern Abroad Grant - Apply for a fully-funded international internship for summer, semester, or winter term. See here for internships. Deadline November 1 the year prior to interning abroad. Apply here.
The Gilman Scholarship - For Pell Grant recipients only.
The October 2022 Deadline application will open in mid-August 2022 for applicants whose in-person programs or internships start between December 1, 2022, to October 31, 2023. This cycle encompasses Winter or January term 2023, Spring 2023, Maymester 2023, Summer 2023, Fall 2023, and Academic Year 2023-2024 programs. The application deadline is Thursday, October 6, 2022, at 11:59pm Pacific Time, and the advisor certification deadline is Thursday, October 13, 2022.
The March 2023 Deadline application will open in mid-January 2023 for applicants whose in-person programs or internships start between May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024. This cycle encompasses Summer 2023, Fall 2023, Academic Year 2023-2024, and Spring 2024 programs or internships. The application deadline is Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 11:59pm Pacific Time, and the advisor certification deadline is Tuesday, March 14, 2023. Grants & Scholarships
Emory & Henry believes that study abroad experiences enrich the potential for life-long learning. To help students benefit from the life-enriching experiences of study and travel abroad, Emory & Henry provides travel grants for students planning to study abroad. See below for E&H grants and scholarships available for study abroad.
Dr. Samir Saliba Endowment for International Education Award
Purpose: Provide financial support for the program fee of E&H Abroad faculty-led courses OR for expenses such as airfare, passport, visa, and other related fees during semester, summer & winter term abroad.
The Samir N. Saliba Endowment for International Education was established in November 2010 with a gift from Peter S. Walters, Emory & Henry College Class of 1970, and Carol A. Walters. The purpose of the endowment is to generate resources for students who need financial assistance in order to participate in a study abroad experience.
Amount: $500 - $2000 for E&H Abroad courses; up to $2000 for semester, summer & winter term abroad.
Eligibility: Available to any student who has been approved for an E&H Abroad course or semester/summer/winter term abroad. Preference is given to those with demonstrated financial need. Multiple awards are available each semester. All students who apply for study abroad will be considered for this award.

The van Vlissingen-Pendleton International Study Grants - for E&H Abroad Courses Only
Purpose: Provide financial support for the program fee of E&H Abroad faculty-led courses; These grants are made available because of a long-term partnership between the John & Marine van Vlissingen Foundation (Zeist, Holland) and Brooke and Bill Pendleton (Atlanta, Georgia). Amount: $500 to $2000
Eligibility: Available to any student who has been approved for an E&H Abroad course. These grants are based on financial need. Multiple awards are available each semester. All students are considered when they apply for an E&H Abroad course.

The Anita Craven Endowment for International Education Award
Purpose: Provide financial support for expenses such as airfare, passport, visa, and other related fees during semester, summer & winter term abroad with preference given to students who study in France.
This endowment was established by Laura Craven Duncan and family in memory of Anita Craven, beloved sister and friend.
Amount: up to $2000
Eligibility: Available to any student who has been approved for semester or summer study abroad with preference given to students who study in France. Multiple awards are available each semester. All students are considered when they apply for semester, summer or winter term abroad.

The Rosalind & Don Reichard Endowment for International Education Award
Purpose: Provide financial support for students who participate in college-sanctioned international educational travel. Grants can be used for E&H Abroad faculty-led courses OR semester, summer & winter term abroad.
The Rosalind and Don Reichard Endowment in International Education was created by the Emory & Henry College Board of Trustees on March 22, 2013 to honor Rosalind Reichard, 20th president of the College, who championed the value and virtues of international education during her tenure as Emory & Henry President.
Amount: up to $2000

The J. Marvin and Jeanne Downing Reynolds Travel/Study Endowment Award
Purpose: Provide financial support for students who who wish to participate in off campus travel/study programs (both national and international). This award can be used for semester, summer & winter term abroad.
The J. Marvin and Jeanne Downing Reynolds Travel/Study Endowment was established in 1998 through the generosity of John Marvin Reynolds, E&H Class of 1945, and Jeanne Downing Reynolds, E&H Class of 1948, to support students who wish to participate in off campus travel/study programs (both national and international). The desire of the donors is to open a doorway where students can gain valuable educational experience in cultures and settings beyond the college campus and their hometowns.
Amount: up to $2000

The Emily Williams Award for Summer Study in England or Scotland
Purpose: Provide for study during the summer at an English or Scottish University and for travel in Great Britain; to promote understanding, goodwill, and peaceful cooperation among all people of the world who speak English.
Amount: $5000; this should cover most major expenses, including travel; any additional expenses must be paid by the award winner.
Eligibility: The applicant must be a citizen of the United States; a student at Emory & Henry College who has not heretofore studied in the United Kingdom; between the ages of 18 and 23 as of June 1; be a junior in a degree program; hold a 3.0 GPA or higher; possess literary and scholastic ability and have high standards of character. The winner will be expected to be enrolled at Emory & Henry College next year and must agree to report to various constituencies on his/her summer experiences.
Institution: The university and course of study are chosen by the prize winner, and must be stated in the application. All arrangements regarding entrance, registration, passport, and travel are the responsibility of the winner.

Students who plan to study abroad for a semester should meet with a representative from the Office of International Education as soon as possible to find a program that fits with their professional goals and to become familiar with the semester abroad application process.
