Emory & Henry College Championed as a College of Distinction
As an institution whose primary goals are based on student success and satisfaction, Emory & Henry College confirms its honor as one of the renowned Colleges of Distinction.
This award is unique among popular college guide classifications, which typically rank schools on the basis of hollow or unclear numbers like the size of the endowment, selectivity and faculty salaries. Emory & Henry College instead earns its recognition for the excellence exhibited in the classroom, incorporating high-impact practices throughout every student’s undergraduate education. Such student-centered programs include the liberal arts core academic curriculum focused on developing students for careers and citizenry with skills in technology, language, math, communication, critical thinking and ethics. The distinctive Ampersand Connection Center helps students make connections to the people and resources needed to develop projects and research; integrate their learning; gain work experience and to follow a unique pathway to a productive and fulfilling career. For all students, Emory & Henry seeks daily to fulfill its mission of joining education with service to the local community, the region and the world. Through the Appalachian Center for Civic Life, the Office of International Education, the School of Health Sciences and many other programs the College practices a place-based model of education and service to develop global citizens. The Inclusion and Dialogue Center creates, engages, encourages and empowers a community inclusive of all and is a welcoming home for dialogue about topics surrounding diversity and inclusion. It’s no surprise that Emory & Henry College is recognized as one of the 40 “Colleges that Change Lives” nationwide.
“We are so proud to see Emory & Henry College walking the walk,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction knows that a truly valuable education can’t be measured by rank or reputation. Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of detailed interviews and research for each institution’s first-year experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction and more. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to the Four Distinctions: Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community and Successful Outcomes.
“Colleges of Distinction doesn’t rank schools because we know that every student is different in what they need to best learn, grow, and succeed,” said Schritter. “Instead, we value schools that embrace those differences.
