What are your hobbies or extracurricular activities?
At Capital University (my home college), I participate in Outdoor Adventure Club, VC Twenty, Coalition of Christian Outreach, Delta Phi Epsilon, and Running Club. Hobby-wise, I really enjoy podcasts, running, hiking, eating sushi, singing, reading, and going to coffee shops.
What attracted you to Semester-A-Trail?
I’ve been dreaming of a thru-hike for a few years now. At first, I was pretty set on hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, but after learning about this program, and talking with my parents, I decided the Appalachian Trail was the way to go. I grew up hiking on the AT every summer with my family, and every summer someone would always say “we should do that.” Well, I’m doing it!
What are you most looking forward to about the program?
I think this program does an amazing job preparing students to hike the trail. We will be taking wilderness first aid, as well as learning about the trail from AT veteran Jim Harrison. On top of this, I’m looking forward to taking part in such a unique learning experience, where I will have the chance to work one-on-one with amazing faculty members at Emory. Also, I’m obviously looking forward to the actual trail experience.
