Ada Nipper

What else are you involved in on campus?

I am also involved in the Global Ambassador program, Emory & Henry Garden, Bonner, and Greek life.

What is your favorite outdoor adventure sport? What has drawn you to this activity?

My favorite outdoor adventure sport is kayaking. Before joining adventure team, I had never been in a kayak before.  It was a whole new experience that was intriguing because of its thrill factor and excitement. It also draws me out of my comfort zone in big ways which I appreciate.

How would you describe the Adventure Team community?

The A-team community is filled with some of the most supportive, connected, and rad people you will ever meet. We are always lifting each other up and are bonded by our love for outdoor sports. We do some things that physcially and mentally challenging, but you can always count on your community for that support.

What qualities does someone need to be a member of the A team?

To be a part of this experience you should keep in consideration some qualities that will be beneficial to your success on the team. I would say the most important one is definitely stoke! You should stay excited and motivated at all times when doing adventure sports. Another one is the willingness to learn–you can join adventure team with very little to no skills, but you cannot prosper without the willingness to learn the skills that you will be provided.

What is your biggest accomplishment as an Adventure Team member?

My biggest accomplishment is simply just pushing myself out of my comfort zone and joining this team. I have been able to do some really cool things like taking on my fear of heights by climbing 60 foot routes on the rock. I have been able to learn how to kayak proficiently which I would have never learned to do had I not joined this team. I also gained a lot of life long friendships that I will always cherish through this community, and that’s a pretty big accomplishment.

What is your favorite local spot for outdoor adventure?

Living in this region there is so much beauty and places to go to live your outdoor experience dreams. If I had to pick a favorite, it would probably be Grayson Highlands. Grayson highlands is a state park not far from campus that has some great hiking along the Appalachian Trail as well as wild ponies and great bouldering! It’s super beautiful and my favorite spot to hang out or go for a good hike with great views.
