National Health Service Corps
The NHSC, established in 1972, is a federal program through the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, the Health Resources & Services Administration ( HRSA ), and the Bureau of Health Workforce offering financial aid & other support to primary care providers & healthcare sites in underserved communities.
The NHSC offers both scholarships and loan repayment opportunities to Physician Assistants, Physicians, Dentists, Nurse Practitioners and Certified Nurse Midwifes. Additionally, the NHSC assists clinical sites in recruiting & retaining qualified, patient-centered, culturally sensitive healthcare providers with a mission to serve the underserved.

Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment Program
The IHS Loan Repayment Program funds IHS clinicians to repay their eligible health profession education loans in exchange for an initial two-year service commitment to practice in health facilities serving American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
Student Opportunities Offered by USPHS Commissioned Corps
The U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps offers an excellent service opportunity for PA students during their last year of training via the Senior Commissioned Officer Student Training and Extern Program (SRCOSTEP). The program is highly competitive but less well-known than many other opportunities.
